ENS Monthly Roundup: March 2023

· 6 min read
chosen.eth

The month of March was an interesting one to say the least. We saw a slight up-tick in the amount of domains registered, from last months 40,480 to 41,859 (3% growth). This is another healthy sign that the ecosystem continues to flourish in a slow, down market where high quality domains shine. It’s going to be interesting to see how this month's big news impacts the buying, selling, and registering of domains moving forward. There were also 24,000 new accounts holding at least one ENS domain this month, something not many can show in a market like this.

In other news, THE ENS NAME WRAPPER WAS DEPLOYED TO MAINNET! This is a step that the entire ENS community has been anticipating and waiting for. You could feel the buzz around the community this past week as the news was announced by Nick Johnson. This was celebrated around the ENS twitter community with notable tweets coming from the likes of Address.eth and Dr3a.eth.

The ability to buy, sell, rent, lease, whatever you want to do with your subdomains; will soon be possible. This is just another reason why ENS has solidified itself as the premier naming system in web3 and will continue to push utility forward.

Also, there’s rumors that the ENS DAO is in talks with the sovereign country of Ethiopia to acquire their TLD .eth 👀 This would be absolutely enormous for the ENS DAO, community, and ecosystem while putting the ENS name on the global stage next to the likes of .co and .xyz…pretty cool.

🤑 Top Sales

As for top sales this month, as you can imagine, the digits lead the way once again. They continue to show resilience in a market that’s not been favorable to sellers..the 3D at least:

  1. 293.eth - 26.28 ETH
  2. 589.eth - 18.88 ETH
  3. 894.eth - 18.86 ETH
  4. 681.eth - 18.79 ETH
  5. 753.eth - 18 ETH

🔟 Top Ten

The top ten this month is what you can imagine and not that interesting, all 3D domains. I will add that just outside of the top ten were quite a few cool and unique names that sold for very fair prices. Here are just a few of those:

  1. ncaa.eth - sold for 6.94 ETH (governing body for collegiate athletics)
  2. resortlist.eth - sold for 3.98 ETH (brandable domain mimicking popular “list” suffix)
  3. kent.eth - sold for 2.5 wETH. A truly great price for worldwide name and surname.

(small note that genre.eth selling for 1.2 ETH is an absolute steal, congrats to the buyer on that one).

Similar to last month, and now a Kodex ENS Monthly Roundup staple, we found you some gems 💎 similar to those of the top monthly sales. Below are a few that we find interesting and still available to be registered:

info

The "Similar Search" is powered by Kodex’s custom natural language model, which we are constantly improving to make it better at finding great ENS domains.

  • liveconcerts.eth - self explanatory two word domain, opportunity for concert page; in grace.
  • resorter.eth - a person who frequents resorts often; in grace.
  • stressing.eth - something ENS flippers can’t stop doing in the bear market; going into premium.
  • amsea.eth - last sold for 5 ETH (Alaska Marine Safety Education Association); in grace
  • visalist.eth - unregistered; follows the “list” suffix and business domain for visalist.io
note

In this similar search, we used the following words to find unregistered domains: mattress, list, genre, resort, sergey, backstage, misk, and cantina)._**

🙏 Your Saving Grace

When it comes to Grace Period, the ENS power users flourish. Below are just a couple of names found using similar search that are currently on grace:

  • doha.eth - capital city of Qatar and major world hub.
  • meat.eth - honestly, this is stunning..last sold for 9.5 ETH.
  • yak.eth - the long haired shaggy animal that gets angry very easily.
  • boracay.eth - one of the most famous islands in the Philippines (huge tourism sector).
  • musicproduction.eth - very high search volume, last sold for 0.075 ETH; self explanatory domain.

And a quick little bonus name that you can’t ignore: pagoda.eth 🏯

🌀 Random Spin

Similar to last month, below are some domains that are randomly chosen throughout multiple different categories based on Kodex’s similar search mechanism:

  • zonk.eth - dictionary word meaning; to hit or strike.
  • bingsu.eth - famous korean shaved ice cream, mmm yum!
  • cashdividend.eth - do you even do stocks bro?
  • moniqua.eth - common female first name.
  • bilby.eth - kangaroo like animal found in Australia, commonly known as the Australian Easter Bunny...

⭐ The Star

ncaa.eth - this four letter acronym sold for 6.94 ETH and stands for something that not everyone around the world, or all ENS users may know about. I’m not going to try and write a witty and informative post about what the NCAA is, let’s just see what they say for themselves: "The National Collegiate Athletic Association is a member-led organization dedicated to the well-being and lifelong success of college athletes” - ncaa.org. The NCAA represents and makes up for: 1,098 colleges or universities while also encompassing 102 separate athletic conferences, and has a staff of about 500 employees that are based in Indianapolis, Indiana. I’m not sure what else needs to be said to show how significant of a domain this is. The possibilities are actually endless and with the NCAA now having NIL (name, image, and likeness) while allowing student athletes to sign deals, get paid, and do the whole sponsorship thing…this could be an amazing investment for the buyer. If you pair this domain purchase with the news of the name wrapper, you can’t help but smile.

🎬 Conclusion

To end this month's roundup, we need to take a moment and think about the cool things that we got in the month of March. The name wrapper was deployed to mainnet and the DAO is in talks to acquire the .eth TLD from Ethiopia, along with many other things. These main two developments will be historical moments for the ENS ecosystem, DAO, and community. Let’s buckle up and get ready for subdomains, and a potentially bull market summer!
