ENS Monthly Roundup: April 2023

· 6 min read
chosen.eth

Although this month has been slow, it is important to note that there were still significant developments within the community and the ENS DAO. For instance, despite the slow market for holders, there were 27,149 new names registered in April. Additionally, with an average price of GWEI at 38.55, people still went ahead to set avatars for their names, with a total of 3,001 avatars set during the month. It is worth highlighting that, despite the overall decline in the crypto market, new users are continually discovering the ENS protocol and registering names, resulting in 17,795 new ethereum wallets holding at least one ENS domain.

In other news, ENS just celebrated its 6th birthday! This is an incredible milestone for not only the DAO, early believers, squatters, and any other normie who believes in the ENS ecosystem and having a digital identity, but also web3 as a whole. ENS has positioned itself to be the digital identity leader when it comes to providing utility around the protocol and giving users complete control of what they do with their domains.

Another big development throughout the month of April was that the new ENS Manager App was released and is as beautiful as you’d expect. The one and only dr3a.eth wrote a phenomenal thread about the changes throughout the app and how to go about navigating the new interface.

To finish, the ENS Director vote took place over the past weeks with only two candidates throwing their hats into the ring. The first and most popular is avsa.eth. Avsa, aka Alex Van de Sande is a very well respected member within the inner circle of the ENS DAO as well as stewarding the Public Goods for ENS. The second candidate, 3531.eth or better known as Sean Murray. Sean is the creator of multiple tools that help push the ENS ecosystem forward as well as being an active and loud member of the ENS Twitter Community. Long story short, the popularity contest ended with Avsa winning by a wide margin and he will soon be implemented as the new director in place of the outgoing Brantly Milegan. I’d like to add, although Sean didn’t win, I commend him for throwing his name out there up against inevitable odds. It wouldn’t hurt to have someone from within the community as a vocal leader within the official DAO ranks.

🤑 Top Sales

As for top sales this month, we’ve got a nice change for once. Two words lead the way fetching absolutely huge prices in a slow market for sellers. Outside of those two words, digits continue to perform the way you’d expect. With one of the most memorable and common digit sequences being sold for a very respectable price:

  1. mazars.eth - 93 ETH
  2. epic.eth - 25 ETH
  3. 1234.eth - 15 ETH
  4. 904.eth - 11.9 ETH
  5. 253.eth - 10.5 ETH

🔟 Top Ten

The top ten this month is almost identical as it was last month, almost all 3D domains. Just like last month, there were a few names that seemed to stand out from all the digits, here’s just a few of those:

  1. yoga.eth - sold for 5.5 wETH (so many options and doors opened with this name)
  2. tea.eth - sold for 5.5 wETH (another domain that’s self explanatory with huge potential)
  3. katherine.eth - sold for 2 wETH (great price for worldwide female name)

(small note that yoga.eth selling for 5.5 ETH isn’t a steal but for that price, there’s still tons of room for both sides of deal to be happy).

Similar to last month, and now a Kodex ENS Monthly Roundup staple, we found you some gems 💎 similar to those of the top monthly sales. Below are a few that we find interesting and still available to be registered:

info

The "Similar Search" is powered by Kodex’s custom natural language model, which we are constantly improving to make it better at finding great ENS domains.

  • doctrine.eth - a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a group, church, or similar.
  • batch.eth - a group of something, maybe a batch of cookies?
  • positioning.eth - we should all be positioning for the next ENS wave.
  • peasants.eth - i really don’t need to define this word for you, peasants.
  • teller.eth - a person that works at your local bank dealing with your account.
note

(in this similar search, we used the following words to find unregistered domains: yoga, tea, katherine, bed, digitals, narratives, marvin, and epic ).

🙏 Your Saving Grace

When it comes to Grace Period, the ENS power users flourish. Below are just a couple of names found using similar search that are currently on grace:

  • seas.eth - sailing the open seas of web3, shall we?
  • ode.eth - ceremonious lyric poem that addresses and often celebrates a person.
  • riff.eth - a short repeated series of notes common in jazz and with the guitar.
  • rss.eth - one of the most well known 3 letter acronyms in the tech world.
  • riga.eth - capital of Latvia and last sold for 0.52, not a name you want to lose here.

🌀 Random Spin

Similar to last month, below are some domains that are randomly chosen throughout multiple different categories based on Kodex’s similar search mechanism:

  • carving.eth - the act of fashioning something into a special shape or object.
  • seismic.eth - popular term for earthquakes, big events, and graphs.
  • unofficially.eth - this is unofficially the unofficial ethereum domain.
  • protested.eth - something people say they do to express their opinions.

🎬 Conclusion

To end this month's roundup, let’s just recap a few of the awesome and interesting things that happened within the ENS community this month. ENS celebrated its 6th anniversary, a significant milestone for the DAO and web3. Additionally, the new ENS Manager App was released with great reviews for its beautiful interface and ease of use. The ENS Director vote took place, with avsa.eth emerging as the winner by a wide margin. Although 3531.eth, the second candidate, did not win; his participation in the contest was widely respected from within the ENS community.. We can only hope that a position for someone so dedicated to the community will become open. As we wrap up the month of April, we’ll all be looking forward to the name wrapper becoming a widely used tool and hopefully GWEI returning to a normal price.
